Meet Our Physician

Meet Our Team

Geetha Poovendran was born and raised in Ohio. She and her husband, Dr. Poovendran, first met as undergraduates at Miami University of Ohio, where she earned her degree in Management Information Systems. Though their paths diverged for many years, they reconnected in 2019. At the time, Dr. Poovendran was practicing in Ft. Lauderdale, and with the flexibility of her remote work, Geetha relocated to South Florida. The couple later married in Palm Beach on April 3, 2021.
Professionally, Geetha is an analyst by trade with deep expertise in digital strategy, particularly within the direct-to-consumer (D2C) sector. She specializes in creating world-class web and app user experiences, with a strong focus on UX. Her guiding philosophy is rooted in the belief that “if you want something done right, you’ve got to do it yourself.” This principle helped inspire the founding of PRO Institute, where she and her husband set out to reimagine the patient experience. Their practice prioritizes quality over quantity—limiting wait times, ensuring patients receive at least 30 minutes of dedicated time with their physician, and cultivating genuine, personal relationships built on trust and care.
For Geetha, success lies not only in the satisfaction of patients but also in the empowerment of her team. She believes that when staff feel safe, respected, and motivated, and patients feel heard, understood, and valued, the practice is fulfilling its mission.
Outside of her professional role, Geetha and her husband are avid food enthusiasts who enjoy everything from Michelin-star dining to hidden local gems. She is passionate about fitness, especially weightlifting, and treasures spending time with close friends, going to the movies, and planning future travels—Europe and Japan topping her list. Beyond these interests, Geetha is also a committed human rights advocate. In Ohio, she worked with survivors rescued from trafficking, and she hopes to expand her efforts in Florida and beyond, particularly at a time when healthcare and human rights face mounting challenges.

Kate Baumwell joined PRO Institute as the Front Office Manager in July 2024. Originally from New Jersey, she earned her degree in Business with a major in Hospitality Management from the University of Central Florida. In 2008, she made the move to South Florida to enjoy the sunshine and warm climate.
Although new to the medical field, Kate brings a wealth of customer service experience and a passion for creating positive experiences. She thrives on the daily interactions with patients and coworkers, finding fulfillment in the relationships and connections she builds every day at PRO Institute.
Outside of work, Kate is a dedicated animal advocate. She lives with her beloved pets and has family spread across the East Coast. Deeply committed to animal welfare, she fosters for multiple rescue organizations and has even launched her own nonprofit to support fundraising efforts for local animal rescues. Her compassionate nature and drive to help others—both human and animal—shine through in everything she does.

Akyra Gulley is a dedicated Patient Care Coordinator at PRO Institute, where she plays a vital role in patient care within the regenerative medicine clinic. A proud Fort Lauderdale native, Akyra is currently pursuing her Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) at HCI College with the goal of becoming a registered nurse. Her passion for helping others took root early in life and continues to guide her journey in the healthcare field.
Since joining the team, Akyra has found deep purpose in the hands-on experience her role provides. Witnessing patients regain mobility, avoid surgery, and return to pain-free living has only strengthened her commitment to the medical profession. These powerful success stories have confirmed her calling and inspired her to continue growing her skills and knowledge to make a meaningful impact in others’ lives.
Outside of work and school, Akyra enjoys cooking, spending time with her grandparents, binge-reading novels, and exploring local botanical gardens. These personal passions help her stay grounded and rejuvenated, allowing her to bring compassion, focus, and care to every patient she serves.
